Consider the type and colour of flooring that you have and look at rugs with tones to complement these. Rugs going on carpet will need to be higher/heavier pile so they sit flat and not bunch.

Different types of rugs and weaves will suit certain areas better. For example high foot traffic areas require more durable rugs, especially when children and pets are in the mix.

There is a shape for every spot in the house and these can make your spaces feel different depending on how you place them.
4. Size & Placement
Bigger is generally always better when it comes to rugs, if a rug is too small it can really throw off the composition of the space. The rug should comfortably contain the furniture, especially in the lounge and dining area, in the bedroom you an get away with a smaller rug placed partially under a bed.
