The winter months have set in, and so too has our mood for keeping warm and cosy inside. We’re picturing a crackling fire, a hearty stew and some Netflix on the telly… and we’ve been working on the ultimate winter living space to be the setting for these days of hibernation, using some simple styling tricks that can help you amp up the cosy factor in your home.
Although blue tones are often seen as ‘cold’, there are loads of things you can do to make them feel warm, starting with your wall colour. We’ve chosen Dulux Rangitikei River, which is a beautiful blue-green grey that is soothing and calm – and easily warmed up balanced against a rich, walnut brown floor.
We’re in love with our new Etienne Sofa, with lovely, lofty feather cushions you just sink into and a heavy tweed fabrication perfect for nuzzling up to on a wintery night. Available in a three or four seater.
TOUCH & TEXTURE
Most importantly, that cosy, winter feeling is best achieved by adding layers of texture. With a beautiful woollen rug at your feet, a New Zealand sheepskin and a few layers of cushions and throws in different fabrics and tones of grey, blue and black, your room takes on a whole new mood for the new season.
LIGHT IT UP
Another way to make the room feel cosy is to have a low hanging light, which brings the lighting down a little closer. A good combination of floor, table and wall lights will create an intimate and inviting atmosphere we crave when the temp drops.
